She lay on her back and squinted - bright lights, masked men in blue, white linen - around her.
She faintly remembered being on the road with Jim at the wheel. Next, there were loud horns, brilliant light, a rush of adrenaline, excruciating pain and blankness.
The bed next to her lay empty and stained in blood.
